The Ingenium Learning System (ILS) is based on the Reinventing Schools Model (RSM). The RSM was developed by the Re-Inventing Schools Coalition (RISC). Its principals were at Chugach School District in Alaska when it was one of the first two school districts to win the Baldrige Award for Performance Excellence in 2001.
The RSM is derived from the Baldrige-winning systems developed in Chugach. Robert J. Marzano, perhaps the best known education researcher, has determined that "The RISC Approach to Schooling [the RSM] is the most comprehensive and well-articulated approach to standards-based reform in the country."
